BANGALORE, Dec. 12

WITH a strong IT activity, Bangalore has been able to contain unemployment. However, there was need to give a boost to infrastructure as apart from being a potential for lucrative investment it can trigger industrial development leading to larger employment generation.

Stating this here on Thursday, Mr K.K. Misra, Additional Chief Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department said the Karnataka Government has recently formed a committee to promote private-public partnership to evolve a consensus on policy for achieving a sustained economic growth.

Referring to the gradual trend in roads projects taking off to give a boost to the construction sector, Mr Misra said with a view to achieve a consistency in quality, the State Government has decided to entrust the maintenance of the roads to the contractors who had built them. It has been made part of the contract to award a three-year maintenance to infuse greater commitment quality from the contactors, he said.

Addressing a press conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Karnataka, to announce the details of the Excon, the second international trade fair on construction equipment and construction technologies here from December 16 to 19, Mr Misra hoped that with the falling bank interest rates the industry should have no complaint about availability of funds at a cheaper price.
