BANGALORE, Dec. 16

SWEDISH group Volvo has launched its new FM9 tipper truck in India. The new truck will be aimed at the construction industry, fuelled by speedy highways projects commissioned across the country. India is implementing a major 10-year programme involving two separate projects to upgrade 13,000 km of highways at a cost of about $13 billion.

Company officials declined to detail the expected sales figure for the current as well as next year. However, sales in "the last three-four months have been slower than the first six months" of calendar 2002, officials said.

Volvo had so far sold 500 units of its FM7 truck, a 7.0 litre vehicle it launched in 1999, they said.
