The Hindu Business Line : BEML dozer, big draw at Excon

BANGALORE: A radio-control dozer, the first of its kind developed by Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML), is the star display at the ongoing construction equipment exhibition, Excon 2002 here.

The dozer, one of BEML's disaster management products, is an unmanned vehicle operated remotely from a distance of 60 metres using a trans-receiver set. It can be effective in handling hazardous material, nuclear waste or to clear debris in quake-hit areas.

Another attraction at the expo is the Escorts JCB excavator-loader. Called `dancing digger' for the various manoeuvres it can make, the excavator jives to music. EJCB has put up a 30-ft-high dome to serve as the dance floor and holds shows for the public every evening. The meet is on till December 19.
