Rural Development Nabard sanctions Rs 5.4 cr more Our Bureau
BANGALORE: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 5.46 crore to Karnataka under RIDF-8 or the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund, according to the bank Chief General Manager, Mr S.M. Mehta. The amount will cover 20 rural road projects to be implemented during 2002-04 in Bagalkot, Bidar, Hassan, Mandya, Koppal and Uttara Kannada, and one bridge project in Uttara Kannada. The completed projects will cover 71 villages and provide employment of 5.03 man days. With this, Nabard has sanctioned to Karnataka Rs 172.58 crore under RIDF-8 alone for 2002-03 and a total of Rs 1705 crore under RIDF since 1995-96. Nabard has so far approved 40 rural godown projects involving subsidy of Rs 123 lakh in the State under the Centre's capital investment subsidy scheme under the Grameen Bhandaran Yojana. The subsidy is to help finance the construction, renovation or expansion of rural godowns at a concessional refinance interest rate of 7.75 per cent. The scheme will apply to all godown projects for which loans have been sanctioned under the scheme during 2001-02 and 2002-03, according to Mr Mehta. Entrepreneurs can get 25 per cent of the total cost or a maximum of Rs 37.50 lakh or 33.33 per cent in hilly areas and to SC/ST entrepreneurs subject to a ceiling of Rs 50 lakh as credit linked back-ended subsidy.
