Deltagram launches instant voice messaging system

CHENNAI, Dec. 17

DELTA Innovative Enterprises Ltd, the Chennai-based network enabled communication service provider, launched an instant voice messaging service here today.

The Executive Director, Delta Innovative Enterprises Ltd, Mr P.K. Venugopal, said the service, dubbed HALLO utilises satellite and GSM technologies with fall back mechanisms like the Internet.

It involves digital capture of a message over phone, compression, and transmission in the sender's voice to another phone, either cellular or land line in any location in the country.

The service is a value added one over their earlier product, the E-Call, the phone-to-phone messaging service where the message is passed on by Delta. In HALLO, since the receiver gets to hear the message in the sender's voice, there is a personal touch and accuracy is assured as the message is recorded and replayed. Therefore, the message can be in any language, he said.

Delta expects the corporates will stick to E-Calls while HALLO will attract the individual user who may want the personal touch. This service will be ideal for sending greetings and messages to one or more persons, and at predefined date and time.

So birthday greetings or other such messages can be made well ahead of the date but Delta will ensure delivery at the appropriate time, the number of attempts to deliver and the interval between each attempt can also be programmed, he said.

The fully automated service can be utilised on the purchase of a HALLO card for Rs 5, which will give the user an identity number. Using the card the sender can record his message through a menu driven Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS).

The duration of the message can be up to one minute with an optional reply facility for the user. Initially, the card will be available in Chennai and in the next 6 months will be made available throughout the country, Mr Venugopal said.

Delta Innovative, branded Deltagram, commenced operations in 1997 with a two-way messaging service.

The company expects to sell five lakh HALLO cards per month in Chennai.
