WHEN the annual year-opener, Indian Science Congress, meets shortly in Bangalore, it will have a rare interface with the industry and also pay a rich tribute to the best things to come out of the country's public and private sector industry.

About 100 big names in business such as Godrej, TVS, HAL, BEL, MICO, Biocon, Apollo Hospitals, BSNL, BPL, Reva, IA, C-DAC, Namdhari Seeds, Konkan Railway and MSRDC will feature in `Pride of India', a mega showcase of Indian prowess in products, technologies and research. Some 8,000 sq. m of exhibition space has been carved out for them at the sprawling Bangalore University campus here.

ISC 2003, the 90th science congress, is being held during January 3-7.

For the first time, the Confederation of Indian Industry is also a co-host of the premier national science meet, joining hands with research and academic powerhouses like ISRO and Bangalore University.

In another first is walk through the `Hall of Pride' to be inspired by the sagas of Vikram Sarabhai, the founding father of the Indian space programme, and Dhirubhai Ambani, who built up the Reliance Industries. The pavilion, according to the organisers, is bound to inspire budding scientists and entrepreneurs.

The expo will have a research mix too, from participants like CSIR, BARC, DRDO, NAL, CFTRI, ICAR, ICMR and the Departments of Science & Technology and Biotechnology. Canara Bank, SBI and SBM too will be there with their wares.

The Karnataka Government, which wants to be a preferred investor destination, is also putting its own best profile, along with Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana.
