Explosive device defused in Coimbatore

Our Bureau

AN explosive device planted in a public call office (PCO) booth in front of the Coimbatore Press Club was defused today afternoon after a caller alerted the city Police Commissioner's office and warned of the planting of the explosive device.

Earlier in the day, a Molotov cocktail was hurled at the TNSTC bus-depot close to the Press Club but before it could cause much damage, the TNSTC staff put out the fire.

Police believe that the two incidents had some link with the recent stand off between the police and the wife of the jailed PDP leader, Abdul Nasser Maudany, when she came to meet him in the Central Prison in Coimbatore. Police had seized some cell phones and SIM cards from her.
