Bid to regulate college admissions in Karnataka
Our Bureau
BANGALORE: The State Government has decided to set up a committee of officials and experts under the head of Dr G. Parameshwar, Minister for Higher Education, to suggest broad policy guidelines to conduct admissions to professional courses from the next academic year.
The decision comes after a meeting between the Government and the managements of private professional colleges in the light of the Supreme Court's order curtailing the powers of the Government in the matter of admissions in respect of private-unaided and minority colleges.
The meeting convened by the Chief Minister, Mr S.M. Krishna, failed to arrive at any consensus on Thursday on the issue of quota of the colleges under merit and payment admissions in the professional colleges.
In view of this it has been decided to refer the issue to an experts committee, which has been mandated to evolve a draft admission policy, feed structure and other guidelines.
