Infrastructure Rs 22-cr French loan for BDA project Our Bureau

BANGALORE, Feb. 6 FRANCE today announced a Rs 22-crore loan assistance for a project that will modernise the preparation of master plan of the landscape and basic urban facilities in Bangalore. The soft loan carrying an interest rate of two per cent is repayable in 27 years. Informing this at a press conference here today, Mr Jayaker Jerome, Commissioner, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) said a memorandum of understanding was signed by the visiting French Prime Minister, Mr Jean-Pierre Raffarin, and the Chief Minister, Mr S.M. Krishna. Under the agreement, the fund will be utilised for developing a digitised land use map for the metropolitan region of Bangalore covering the entire area under the jurisdiction of BDA spanning 1,400 sq.km. The French assistance will also be used for preparing a Comprehensive Development Plan, development of a territorial data server that will give land developers, town planers and investors a synthetic tool that provides an easy access to key reference information of Bangalore. The pilot project of digitising the land use map and CDP with the help of Geographical Information System (GIS) will be completed in two years and will be done in technical collaboration from leading French agencies like Atelier Parisien Urbanisme, (counterpart of BDA), Kauris, the regional development authority of France and University of Paris, Sorbonne. BDA has set up a special centre for regular monitoring of the project. Earlier, a `declaration of intent' was signed by Mr Krishna and Ms Ane-Marie Comparini, President of the Rhone Regional Council, France, for cooperation in economic and commercial development areas and higher education.
