Announcements Hindalco awards Rs 87-cr boiler contract to Alstom Our Bureau
KOLKATA, Feb. 17 THE power division of Hindalco Industries Ltd has awarded an Rs 87-crore contract to Alstom Projects India Ltd (APIL) for the modernisation of two boilers at its Renusagar captive power plant. Each boiler has the capacity to help generate 68 MW of power. The work will be undertaken by APIL in close cooperation with Alstom's US operations. According to Mr Teuvo Pulkkinen, head of the boiler business of APIL, the contract illustrates the benefits of upgrading older boiler units with advanced Alstom technology. He said, "We are focused on providing our customers with cost-effective solutions to improve boiler performance and overall plant competitiveness." Performance of both the boilers, originally supplied by Alstom in 1967, will improve with higher capacity and reduce nitrous oxide and dust emissions levels after the work in completed in two years. The contract work involves upgradation of the boilers using advanced Alstom technology, including high performance mills, to handle low-grade coals and efficient in-furnace "low nitrous oxide" burners. In addition, the electrostatic precipitator will also be upgraded to limit outlet dust emission.
