More IT cos expected at IIM-B recruitment

Anjali Prayag

BANGALORE, March 4

DURING the imminent campus recruitment process at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) the class of 2003 is likely to get a larger number of offers from Indian IT companies compared to last year.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr Ganesh N. Prabhu, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Placement, said that among the 180 students in the current batch, 20-odd pre-placement and 20 lateral placement offers have already been made.

"But the actual statistics and the company names can only be revealed at the end of the placement process," he added.

This year's campus recruitment process, scheduled for March 6-7, will see at least 60 of the 90 companies that came for pre-placement talks.

And like last year, foreign offers are likely to be few this time around. "We are expecting 5-6 foreign companies to make about 20 offers," Mr Prabhu said.

Last year, a significant number of FMCG companies had turned up, which will not happen this year, according to him. "All the marketing jobs are likely to come from Indian IT companies."

Among the 60 companies, Mr Prabhu said that a third would be from the IT sector, another one-third from the finance sector (insurance and banking), while the rest would be distributed among FMCG, consultancy and other companies.
