Human Resources Toonz to launch training school Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, April 2 TOONZ Animation India, recently ranked among the top 10 animation studios in the world and located in Technopark here, has decided to deploy the internationally trained and experienced manpower at its disposal for training activities in its home base. According to Mr Bill Dennis, President and Chief Executive Officer, the Toonz initiative is aimed at meeting what he described as the acute shortfall of trained personnel in the country even as the animation industry holds the prospects for growing at a rapid pace. To be launched in mid-May, the proposed `Toonz Animation School' will provide fully intensive training of international standard by a faculty of expatriates. Those who enrol for the Toonz programme would also be provided an opportunity to work in real animation on international projects as a part of the course content. They will also have the unique opportunity to learn and work in the development and pre-production aspects. "The programme will provide job opportunities to many. Currently, there is a severe gap between the demand and supply of trained personnel in the animation segment in India even as the industry is growing very fast. The avenues available for training to match this growth are limited. That's why we have decided to enter the scene and open a channel that will provide trained talents on a continuous basis to the industry,'' Mr Dennis explained. Toonz Animation School will conduct programmes in three areas namely: (a) Animation - six months (basic training for four months and on-the-job training for two months); (b) Layout - six months (basic training for four months and on- the-job training for two months) and (c) In-between/Clean up - four months (basic training for two months and on-the-job training for two months). Only a limited number of seats are available for all the three courses. Eligibility for the course is formal training in art and design and/or a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. The selection process comprises a candidate portfolio review and admission tests. The thrust will be on drafting skills and the understanding of posing, staging and movement in the animation course and hence, the portfolio should include quick action sketches of humans or animals, which show the potential for movement. The focus will be on designing of sets in layout course and the portfolio should include layout drawings demonstrating composition, lighting and staging abilities. Toonz Animation has also entered into a tie-up with a financial institution to provide support to the students intending to join the course. Students who excel in the course will be provided placement in Toonz Animation's studios in Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai. Application forms will be available on sending an email at training@toonzanimationindia.com or from Maya Nair, Head - HR & Training, Toonz Animation India, at 0471-2527278. Last date for the acceptance of applications is April 30. Toonz Animation is the most advanced studio to be opened in India since the country emerged as a potential player in the international animation industry. A series titled The Adventures of Tenali Raman, a home production, is all set to hit the TV screens, and another on Hanuman, titled Adventures of Hanuman, has moved to the pre-production stage. Recently, Toonz had set up offices in Tokyo and Brisbane.
