`No duty-free import of spices'

Our Bureau

KOCHI, April 2

THE Spices Board has clarified that imports of cardamom and turmeric are not duty-free consequent to the Exim Policy announcement.

As per the previous policy, seeds of selected spices viz, cardamom, celery, fenugreek, dill, ajwain , cassia torea, and turmeric fresh were restricted for import and licence was required to be obtained for import. In the new Exim Policy, these items had been taken out from the restricted list thereby allowing imports without licence.

However, the relevant import duty is required to be paid for imports, the board clarified in a press release issued here.
