Mixed reaction from CLE to Exim Policy

CHENNAI, April 2

THE Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has welcomed the Central Government's decision to maintain status quo in duty drawback rates for almost all leather products, but simultaneously expressed disappointment that attempts to persuade the Centre on including select leather items were unsuccessful.

"For the past several years, the council has been pleading for inclusion of entries in the duty drawback schedule for certain new items like leather upholstery, woven mesh/mats etc., which have enormous export potential. However, even in the new schedule, these products do not find place," a CLE release on its reactions to the Exim Policy said.

However, CLE has also welcomed the Central Government's decision to include certain new items such as aprons, vests, chaps leg guards etc., and a wide range of industrial leather gloves.
