Railways Variety - Health Railways sops for kidney patients come into effect Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, April 2 THE Ministry of Railways will extend a helping hand to kidney patients and senior citizens aged 60 years and above travelling on Indian Railways. Beginning on Tuesday, kidney patients travelling to recognised hospitals for dialysis and kidney transplant operation either alone or with an escort will be entitled to a concession of 75 per cent in the First, AC 3-tier, AC-Chair Car, Sleeper and Second Class and 50 per cent in AC First and AC 2-tier Sleeper. The concession will be applicable for the return journey also after dialysis and kidney transplant operation, an official statement said here on Tuesday. One escort with every patient will also be eligible for the concession. Besides, senior citizens aged 60 years and above will be entitled to 30 per cent concession in mail and express fares of all classes and all-inclusive composite fares on Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi trains. However, for tickets issued for travel on or after April 1, the refund of difference in fares will not be admissible, the statement said.
