Bajaj Tempo sales up 30%

PUNE, April 8

Bajaj Tempo Ltd, has recorded a growth of over 30 per cent in sales turnover over the last financial year at Rs 850 crore (Rs 652 crore last fiscal) for the financial year ended March 31, 2003.

A statement released here said the growth has come across from Tempo's four product lines of three-wheelers, multi utility vehicles, light commercial vehicles and tractors.

According to the information available, the company's light commercial vehicle sales (both small-load carriers and vans) has grown by 30 per cent to 3,087 units as against 2,371 in the previous year at a time when the industry has registered a growth of only about 20 per cent.

Multi-utility vehicles (passenger and goods carriers) has also recorded a sales growth of 29 per cent to touch 6,519 units as against 5,051 units in the previous year while the industry has grown by only 16 per cent, the statement said.

The 3-wheelers (passenger and goods carriers) have also recorded a growth of 26 per cent to 24,931 units as against 19,739 units in the previous year while industry growth has been around 14 per cent, the release added.

The company's tractor division has registered a growth of 75 per cent over last year, bucking the trend of the tractor industry's decline of 24 per cent. The sale of tractors during March 2003 stood at 522 units.
