Scooters India may take green tech southward

Sudha Menon

PUNE, April 24

SCOOTERS India Ltd, which is rapidly positioning itself into a green technology vehicle manufacturer, is all set to launch its electrical vehicles (EVs) here on a trial basis. The company is also exploring the possibility of venturing into the South with its non-polluting vehicle and is likely to launch from Bangalore, Mr N.K. Trivedi, Director (Technical) and Chief Operating Officer, told Business Line.

Mr Trivedi said the company was given the green signal last week by the Pune Regional Transport Authority to ply 10 EVs on two routes within the city on a trial basis. It would also launch services within the Pune University campus soon, he said. Mr Trivedi said the company recently raised the issue of launching its EVs in Karnataka with the Environment Secretary and said it is hopeful of launching the vehicle in Bangalore within the next three-four months. "Reva is already running in the city in the personalised vehicle segment and introducing our EVs there would be an effective way of supplementing it with the non-polluting public carrier," he said.

Meanwhile, the company's pilot project here is likely to take off from May 1, according to Mr Vinay Panchnadikar, Regional Manager (West).
