A finishing school for tech professionals

HYDERABAD, April 28

THE Pearl City Chapter of Pennsylvania-based Project Management Institute (PMI), an initiative promoted by technology professionals to finetune management skills, has drawn up plans to enhance its footprint by offering management and technology consultancy services to Government and technology groups.

Mr P. Sreenivasan, Member Executive Committee of PMI, Mr S.Ramanathan, Chapter President, said that technology professionals had certain core competencies but many of them lack project management and team leadership capabilities. With focussed training on management skills and networking, PMI seeks to upgrade their skills and help them scale up the value chain.

In league with a US-based Astrowix Corporation, PMI is planning to establish a project management laboratory wherein technology professionals will be exposed to simulation for projects in the enterprise wide applications.

Mr Ramanathan told newspersons , "the strong relationship between the project management professionals in Government, industry and academia is a point we highlight and we have received a very positive feedback regarding this approach. We are partnering with Centre for Organisation Development to facilitate busy professionals to take up training during weekends."

Dr A.K.Rao, President-elect for PMI Pearl City chapter, and part of Satyam Learning Centre, said since successful completion of projects hinges on best practices, practical help tips, modern tools and techniques. "In an important initiative with the Hyderabad-based Inspira Technologies, PMI has partnered with the Andhra Pradesh Government to work on a management related issue for the irrigation department. We expect to partner with the State Government in other similar initiatives," he said.
