CII debate on manufacturing industry

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, April 28

IN a bid to set an agenda for the promotion of manufacturing industry, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising an interactive national debate on April 30 throughout its network in the country "to create an awareness about the opportunities and need for revival in the manufacturing industry".

To be telecast and Web cast live on CNBC and www.ciionline.org respectively, the debate will be kicked off at 11 a.m. with a presentation by Dr C.K. Prahalad, Harvey C Fruehauf Professor of Corporate Strategy, Michigan Business School, US.

His address will be followed by an interactive session and a workshop at Hotel Taj Residency in the city. Dr Prahalad will answer questions from the audience from all over the country.

"We have to develop a strong manufacturing base to achieve 10 per cent growth and create 10 million jobs. India can become an alternative location to China as far as manufacturing is concerned. That India offers a cost-effective alternative is proved more than once,'' a CII press release said here on Monday.

The national debate hopes to involve massive participation of various players involved in the manufacturing industry, including managers, supervisors and trade unions.

The apex chambers will set up 100 centres across the country comprising representatives of the industry.
