NEW DELHI, May 12

THE President of Mozambique, Mr Joaquim Alberto Chissano, today said that Indian enterprises could play a role in business links, technology and investment in Mozambique.

Addressing captains of industry, he outlined the various investment opportunities that Mozambique had to offer to Indian enterprises. The meeting had been jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

The Mozambique President called on Indian industry to partner in the development of the Zambezi valley, potentially the richest part of the country, but whose people had the lowest human development index.

Officials of the two Chambers felt that there was tremendous scope for increasing bilateral trade between India and Mozambique which was valued at $36.61 million during 2001-02.
