Quashing of order on ports for export sought

Our Bureau

KOCHI, June 13

THE Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the Central Board of Excise and Customs to quash the notification directing exporters to use specified ports for exports.

Strongly opposing the move, the chamber said the notification would have a disastrous effect on the fortunes of Kochi Port especially since the port is currently in the process of initiating development projects such as port-based SEZ and container transhipment terminal.

"We are surprised to see that a major port such as Kochi is conspicuously absent from the list of selected ports under the notification", the Chamber President, Mr N.R. Pai, said.
