Industry Associations Industry & Economy - Foreign Trade FICCI team to spot more tie-up areas with China Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, June 15 A 25-MEMBER business delegation led by Mr Yogendra K. Modi, Senior Vice-President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), will be leaving for Beijing and Shanghai on June 22, coinciding with the visit of the Prime Minister, Mr A.B. Vajpayee, to China. The visit is to identify niche areas for enhancing partnership with Chinese industry. Apart from the crucial business seminars in Beijing and Shanghai, the FICCI and its counterpart chamber - China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) _ will be having the eleventh meeting of India-China JBC. Some of the critical issues constraining bilateral trade between the two countries will be discussed at this meeting. Problems in negotiation of LCs due to weak banking links which could affect steel exports to China, slow progress of the bilateral protocol on exports of mango and other fruits from India and China, possibility of exchanging tariff lines under Bangkok Agreement in thrust sectors of mutual interest would constitute some of the specific issues which will be raised with Chinese counterparts. This visit will witness unfolding of FICCI's initiative jointly with CCPIT towards publication of India China Business Guide Book, which will facilitate business tie-ups between different provinces and markets in China, according to FICCI. Apart from sectoral presentations on IT, pharmaceuticals, steel & textiles, FICCI will be signing a memorandum of understanding with Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) to document perspectives of leading opinion makers with regard to the direction towards Indo-Chinese future economic cooperation.
