Marketing Research Industry & Economy - Education MRSI ties up with UK firm for on-line course Our Bureau
MUMBAI, June 16 THE market research society of India (MRSI) is tying up with the market research society of UK to offer a co-branded post-graduate diploma and certificate course in market research (MR) on the Net in India. Mr B.V. Pradeep, President, MRSI, told Business Line, "Currently there are no courses specifically for MR and most of them form part of management courses. We plan to introduce this MR diploma course online by next year.'' This co-branded online course would be offered to both graduates and working professionals and will be pegged between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000. Currently MRSI-UK is in the process of devising a curriculum for the same. The Rs 400-crore MR industry in India has the potential to expand its business to Rs 1,000 crore. At present, the size of the industry is only four per cent that of the advertising industry, while globally this figure is closer to 10 per cent. This low figure is due to a combination of two factors, a small MR base and a significant number of sporadic users of MR, according to Mr Pradeep. With stagnant growth rate maintained at 10 per cent for the past two years, MRSI is hoping to restore the industry to grow at 20 per cent. Claims Mr Pradeep, "We are not expecting the MR industry to grow more than 10 per cent this year but about three to four years ago it was growing at 25 per cent.'' At present, almost 100 odd companies are estimated to use MR thereby allocating between half and one per cent of their turnover and they include big spender like Hindustan Lever Ltd as well. Trying to beef up business for MR firms, this year, MRSI has decided to hold a symposium by bringing in 12 premier MR companies to participate in a trade show to display the latest global tools available to them. Mr Pradeep said, "We would be addressing some of the burning issues addressing MR and basically help prospective clients in realising how MR can help grow their business.''
