IOC's Irugur terminal bags green award

COIMBATORE, June 20

THE Irugur terminal of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has been presented with the `Golden Peacock Environment Management Award 2003 (Service-SME)' instituted by the New Delhi-based World Environment Foundation.

The terminal, located about 17 km from here, has already received IS/ISO 14001:1996 certification for Environment Management System. It has an 80-acre landscape with all round greenery.

According to an IOC release, the company had initiated several measures in the terminal to safeguard environment, including complying with relevant environment legislation and regulations, conserving water, electricity and oil, minimising impact of noise, effluent and land contamination, increasing the green belt, motivating and training employees about environment, health and safety aspects, etc.

The award was presented on the occasion of the 5th World Congress on Environment Management at Palampur in Himachal Pradesh on June 13. Mr A.S. Ujwal, General Manager (Operations), IOC, Mumbai, and Mr P. Anbalagan, Senior Terminal Manager, Irugur, received the award from by Sri Sri Ravishankar, Founder of the Art of Living Foundation.
