HYDERABAD, June 20

TO encourage entrepreneurship among Engineering graduates, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), here has started an Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), with support from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

Inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Y. Venkat Rami Reddy, the Centre plans to `convert job seekers into job providers.'

The DST has through its National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) provided financial support of Rs 10 lakh to the 5 year project, according to Prof K. Lal Kishore, the Principal of the JNTU college of Engineering. The EDC will attempt to develop mechanisms to create an entrepreneurial culture and breed technocrat entrepreneurs.

The activities of the Cell would be monitored and guided by an Advisory Committee headed by the Chairman of the College and would have members from the DST, NABARD, NISIET, CII, DIC and faculty members of the University.

To be coordinated by Prof N.V. Ramana Rao, the EDC would strive to provide linkages between institutions and industry, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), promote science and technology based enterprises, and bring the entire gamut of financial, business management and project formulation and appraisal.
