Textiles Textile team for Morocco to stitch up EU market Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, June 20 THE Union Textile Minister, Mr Shawnawaz Hussain, is leading a delegation of exporters to Morocco for the inauguration of the Indian Textile Exhibition in Casablanca on June 23. The team would also interact with the importers there to explore the possibility of the European market for which Morocco is the gateway. Official sources told Business Line that over 90 representatives from as many as 49 companies would participate in the exhibitions, showcasing the full-range of Indian textiles among the importers, agents and wholesalers there. The exhibition is intended to cover all sectors of the textile industries such as man-made fibres, cotton, silk and handloom. Morocco is a leading importer of Indian textiles with an import level of Rs 7,057 crore annual. Yarn and fabrics constitute bulk of their imports. As India's share in the Morocco market is still small, the exhibitions would enable the Indian exporters a golden opportunity to establish direct contacts with importers and negotiate business so as to facilitate further expansion in exports. The sources further stated that Morocco is the principal supplier of ready-made garments to the European Union countries, thereby offering large scope for fabric exports. The Moroccan Association of Textile and Clothing has offered fullest cooperation in mounting the Indian textile exhibition Besides the Minister, the official delegation includes Chairman, the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council of India Mr Rakesh Mehra and the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Mr K.K. Jalan.
