HYDERABAD, June 24

FAIR & Lovely Foundation, a non-profit organisation of the Hindustan Lever Educational and Welfare Trust, has tied up with the Andhra Pradesh Government for taking up various initiatives aimed at encouraging economic empowerment of women in the State.

In a press communiqué issued here on Tuesday, the foundation said the initiatives to be undertaken include Projects Saraswati (rural), Disha and Kaladarshan in the areas of education, careers and enterprise respectively.

Project Kaladarshan, an initiative in the area of enterprise, aims at helping women enhance their income generation capacity by providing them with appropriate training in embroidery and garment designing.

Under Project Saraswati (rural), the Foundation would confer educational scholarships on 20 young girls from rural areas of AP, who have the aptitude, drive and ambition to make a name for themselves, but are constrained due to the financial resources at their disposal.

Project Disha, aims to provide career counselling to young women through career fairs in 20 towns of AP, to help them make informed career decisions.

The Fair & Lovely Foundation, which has the AP government as its programme partner for these three projects in AP, has undertaken several other projects across the country in line with its objective of encouraging economic empowerment of women, the release said.

Commenting on the development, the Commission of Women Empowerment and Self-employment and Chief Executive Officer of Employment Generation Mission, AP Government, Ms C.S. Ramalakshmi, said: "The State Government is consciously making an effort to assist self-help groups (SHGs) by providing revolving fund/matching grant under various programmes. We are happy that the Fair & Lovely Foundation is joining hands with our Commissionerate in this endeavour."

Thanking the State government for its support, the HLL Marketing Manager, Skincare, Ms Sangeeta Pendurkar, said: "We believe that Indian women are immensely talented and capable. Sometimes, all they need is a guiding hand to help achieve their goals. Through its various projects in the areas of careers, education and enterprise, the Fair & Lovely Foundation seeks to make a difference to the lives of several women by helping them achieve their potential through guidance and recognition."
