PMO and CAS

This is with reference to "PMO steps in as CAS impasse continues" (Business Line, July 3). It is not clear how the Government can implement the CAS on July 15 in the absence of adequate number of set top boxes (STB).

The other day Mr Sharad Yadav, who is a prominent political leader, was seen on a TV channel complaining that he himself had not seen the STB. The repeated statements of Information and Broadcasting Ministry that there are enough boxes, and that it will protect the interests of the viewers and the counter arguments of cable operators have created much havoc. Everybody knows that the Centre is confused on the matter. So the Centre should reach a via media in the matter. The viewers, who have already lost many channels due to the ongoing tussle, expect a fair deal from the Centre.
