Maruti H1 sales in Karnataka up 13 pc

SALE of Maruti vehicles in Karnataka has increased over 13 per cent during the first six months of 2003 compared with the same period last year.

According to Maruti Udyog, sale of its vehicles increased nearly 27 per cent to 5,200 during the first quarter of 2003-04 compared with the same period in 2002-03.

A company official said during January - June 2003, sale of Maruti vehicles increased to 11,000 compared with 9,700 vehicles during January-June, 2002.

Of this, 4,400 were Maruti 800s, 3,300 were Omnis and 3,000 were Zen, Alto and Wagon R and the rest.

On an all-India basis, Maruti Udyog recorded a 37 per cent increase in sales during the first quarter (April - June) of 2003 compared with the same period last year while the industry grew 28 per cent.

The `A' segment led the growth in the industry where Maruti is a sole player with its 800 series of cars.

The `A' segment grew by 63 per cent during the first quarter compared with the same period last year and its share grew 4 per cent to 20 per cent during the first quarter of 2003 compared with the same period in the previous year.

Though the B segment declined by 4 per cent to 40 per cent, Maruti's models in the B segment grew to 42 per cent from 39 per cent.

The total market share grew to 55 per cent from 51.5 per cent during the same period.

Maruti sold a total of 90,700 cars during the first quarter of 2003 while it sold 66,400 cars during the same period last year.

A total of 1,64,000 cars of all companies were sold during April-June 2003 while 1,28,000 cars were sold during the same period last year.

Maruti recently tied up with State Bank of Mysore to offer finance options for customers. The bank will charge a simple interest rate of 10.25 per cent, which works out to Rs 1,712 per month per lakh for a seven-year period.
