Hyderabad , July 31

LAUNCHING a co-branded powerful 32 K SIM card with MTV targeting the youth, Bharti Cellular Ltd, Andhra Pradesh, has announced its plans to reach out to about 215 towns by August-end.

The Chief Operating Officer of Bharti Mobile, AP, Mr K. Srinivas, said that the company has so far invested about Rs 150 crore this fiscal in the overall network expansion. From about 180 towns reach now, it has plans to add one town a day and cover 215 towns in all by August end. This will enable Bharti to further consolidate its operations in the State.

By June 2003, AirTel was the largest cellular service provider in Andhra Pradesh with 3.62 lakh users and is set to cross the four-lakh mark shortly. Powered by the addition of new towns in the company's network expansion, we will be able to add more customers, Mr Srinivas said.

Projecting a reach of over 130 per cent this year given the current rate of customer acquisitions, Mr Srinivas said that we would see an overall growth of 10 plus per cent in customer acquisition per month across circles.

This will translate to almost doubling the existing base by the year-end. When the growth of the limited mobility phones are factored along with this outcome, we could well see this translating to over 130-140 per cent growth.

The AirTel-MTV card offers its customers in the 16 to 24 age group a range of special ring tones and even wake-up calls.
