`Demand for EPM skills on the rise'

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad , Aug. 8

WITH thrust on return on investment following heightened pricing pressure on corporations, the demand for enterprise project management (EPM) skilled professionals is set to increase in the software services industry, according to an enterprise project management expert.

The founder and Chief Executive Officer of AstroWix Corporation, Mr Upendra Giri, who is in India conducting workshops for project management leadership programmes, told Business Line that even within the US, there was growing demand for trained professionals with project management skills.

"There is a distinction between business management and project management. While every business is about managing projects, enterprise project management is about marshalling the available resources and delivering solutions just in time. When Indian corporations are competing with global majors with best practices, the only way to match their pace and work approach is do the same thing better. This will be possible if they have team leaders with such skill-sets," Mr Giri said.

"We are engaged with World Bank in India and associated with a project in Uttar Pradesh and are also engaged with Government of Rajasthan. Therefore, not just companies, even Governments who are investing heavily in various e-governance projects, will be able to benefit from project management-trained professionals," Mr Giri explained.

The Project Management Institute was established in 1969 in Philadelphia, and globally there are over 1,00,000 trained professionals. Within India several chapters are being established. AstroWix Corporation prepares people to be project management-trained professionals.
