Ramco Systems bags Delhi MRTS contract

Raja Simhan T.E.

Chennai , Aug. 8

THE Chennai-based Ramco Systems will carry out network integration for the multi-million dollar mass rail transit system (MRTS) project connecting various locations in new and old Delhi.

Ramco Systems, meanwhile, has identified the African market as a key driver of high growth in the coming years even as it recently set up an office in Durban, South Africa, a company official told Business Line.

Awarded to Ramco by Alactel SA, consultant for project implementer, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), for telecom and networking, the network integration contract was based on Ramco's expertise in commissioning WAN (wide area network) such as Bombay Stock Exchange, NTPC and MMTC, he said.

The official did not disclose the order size.

Phase I of the MRTS consists of commissioning one central location and seven stations (edge locations), and in future would involve commissioning of about twenty additional stations.

With all metro stations to be interconnected, it necessitates integrating various applications like SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), CCTV (closed circuit television), messaging network management and centralised clocking to communication gadgets, he said.

The company was in the process of identifying business and implementation partners. Ramco has formed three strategic partnerships, he said.

"Our medium-to-long term plan is to establish South Africa as the hub for the continent and expand our offerings to other African nations," he said.

The company is also looking at offering VirtualWorks - application development and delivery platform to large and select corporations, he said.
