Extra Central grant for AP

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh has received Rs 78.53 crore as additional Central assistance under the National Slum Development Programme (NSDP) during the last three years. In addition to this, Rs 57.88 lakh worth Central subsidy has been provided to Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation for the construction of 392 toilet seats in 2002-03 under the Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana.

The State Government has said that about 116 towns and 3,495 pockets have been covered under the NSDP to benefit about 38.52 lakh slum-dwellers over the past three years.

The Central assistance supplements the efforts of the State to provide for basic amenities like water supply, storm water drains, sewer, community latrines and bath, street lights and shelter upgradation, according to a release.
