Thiruvananthapuram , Aug. 28

WITH little less than a week to go for the Onam festival in Kerala, the State's Tourism Department is all set to organise a special Onam celebration in New Delhi.

The week-long Onam festival in the Capital will be inaugurated on September 8 at Hotel Ashok, Mr Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Director of Department of Tourism, said.

The festival will offer visitors an opportunity to savour Kerala's cuisine including the traditional Onam sadhya.

Cultural programmes from Kerala will also be an important feature of the Onam festival in New Delhi. The festival venue will be decorated in the traditional Kerala style, he added.

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism is preparing to host the International Boat show in Kochi in the last week of September. The response to the show has been very encouraging, Mr Sharma said.

This year's boat show, the second such event to be organised in the State, will witness international participation for the first time, he said. Some 30 international participants have already registered for the event.

Besides, a number of Indian organisations have also confirmed their participation in the show, he added.
