Our Bureau

MUMBAI: Reliance Infocomm has launched an international short messaging service for both its Reliance IndiaMobile and Reliance IndiaPhone (fixed wireless) subscribers.

According to a press release, the service, launched on Thursday, will allow Reliance IndiaMobile and Reliance IndiaPhone subscribers to send, receive, reply and forward simple text messages to friends, relatives, and business associates in the US and Canada. The service, priced at Rs 2 per SMS, will be in addition to the currently available SMS facility for local destinations on RIM, the release said.

According to the statement, Reliance IndiaMobile and Reliance IndiaPhone subscribers will be able to send text messages to all networks, i.e., CDMA, GSM, TDMA and IDA, across 26 operators in the US and Canada. The service of Rs 2 per SMS is applicable across all rate plans, including the Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer Offer.

The RIM user will be able to avail of the service without having to register for an ISD connection, the release said.
