Hyderabad , Aug. 28

A 11-member delegation from the Government of Tanzania visited the power facilities of Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh to study the ongoing reform process. The team has expressed that several areas of reform can be replicated to streamline their functioning back home.

Part of India tour, wherein the Tanzanian team visited the facilities of Delhi and the Maharashtra power sector, the delegation headed by Mr P. Rutabanzibwa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Minerals, United Republic of Tanzania, said among several reform related issues, the regulatory framework and the effort to bring down subsidies have been very interesting.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the Tanzanian official said the delegation was pleased with the effort initiated by the Andhra Pradesh Government to bring down overall transmission and distribution (T&D) losses, which have gone down significantly. Being a small country, even a small loss for us becomes unbearable, he said.

Tanzania initiated reforms in the energy sector under the support of the World Bank. The delegation, on recommendations from various circles on the changes in the power sector reforms in Andhra Pradesh and the positive impact on making it more efficient, is on a two-day visit to the State.
