Meet to help SSIs set up defence ancillaries

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Sept. 2

A THREE-DAY buyer-seller meet-cum-exhibition on `Defence needs & SSIs' competence' will be inaugurated here on September 5 by the Union Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes.

The objective of the meet is to help small-scale industries set up a national network and supply bases near strategic consumption points to ensure fast and smooth availability of defence needs.

For the first time, the meet will cover all defence procurement involving the Army, Navy and Air Force. Altogether, 38 Ordnance Factories will exhibit samples and models of products, together with design and drawings of defence requirements. They will also make presentations and supply details of items that need to be indigenised. The event is being organised by the Indian Council of Small Industries with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Defence.
