Bureaucratic decisions

This is with reference to "Officials, love thy people not power" (Business Line, September 8). The fact that it took more than 20 years to take a decision on the purchase of Advanced Jet Trainers (AJTs) is ample proof about the ill effects of bureaucratic and political procrastination. The MiG crashes (mainly attributed to the non-availability of AJTs) have caused more economic loss than the actual cost of the AJTs. Above all, the Government can never compensate the invaluable human lives lost in the MiG crashes. The Government departments and the public sector should learn from the private sector which is ready to sacrifice rules and regulations for the quick attainment of their objectives.

C. Ramesh,

Keeramangalam (TN)
