Visakhapatnam , Sept. 9

BHARAT Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) launched Speed, its premium petrol, here on Tuesday.

Mr S. Krishna Murthy, Executive Director (Retail), said at a press meet that the high-performance petrol, priced marginally higher than the ordinary one, was meant for the new generation cars and two-wheelers.

In the branded fuel segment, Speed had a 60 per cent market share in the country and the response to the premium product was very encouraging not only in the bigger cities, but also in the smaller towns. Gradually, it would be sold all over the country.

Currently, he said, 900-kl of Speed was being sold per day in 500 outlets across the country. The fuel additives were being imported from Chevron Oronite Company to meet the stringent emission norms. The premium one would cost Rs 1.30 or so more per litre than ordinary petrol, but the extra mileage would be more.

Mr Krishna Murthy said Speed would be available now in 45-50 outlets in Andhra Pradesh.
