Our Bureau

According to Mr Ashok Jain, founder-member of TBN, QualCore expansion comes in the backdrop of the company being acquired by TBN, the holding company of both QualCore and Leda.

Hyderabad , Sept. 9

QUALCORE Logic Inc, a digital signal application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design company, which has a development-cum-design centre here, has acquired Leda Systems Inc of Plano, Texas, a provider of analog and mixed signal silicon IP.

In addition, the company is set to double its headcount here to about 200 in the next 12 months and invest about $4-5 million in infrastructure and related activities.

This acquisition expands QualCore Logic's portfolio of digital IP and design services to include a full complement of mixed signal, analog and radio frequency offerings and enable it to fully support the consumer electronics, graphics and imaging, wireless and communications markets with a range of silicon IP, design services and full services ASIC applications.

Mr Ashok Jain, founder-member of Terra Burst Network Inc, told presspersons here that QualCore expansion comes in the backdrop of the company being acquired by TBN, a high-speed video signal processing company, and now the holding company of both QualCore and Leda. TBN was angel funded by Merrill Lynch, and Tyco Ventures among others.

While refusing to divulge financial terms of the acquisition, Mr Jain said that together these companies would have a headcount of about 200 plus highly specialised designers for both digital and analog signal processing applications. The Leda entry into the group fold will enhance product portfolio and cover a whole range of applications in the mixed signal processing space.

The Managing Director of QualCore Logic, Mr M.L.N. Acharyulu, said QualCore had emerged as the first Indian company to tape out three products in the 0.13-micron technology, which features multi-million gate count. "Apart from continued thrust on both digital and analog signal processing applications, we plan to lay emphasis on high speed board designs and embedded software applications space.

Typically, US corporations are asking designers if they have development centres in India before firming up orders ," Mr Jain said.
