Ranbaxy launches new anti-infective

RANBAXY Laboratories Ltd has launched a high-end anti-infective injectible under the brand name Cilanem. Introduced for the first time in the country, the drug has excellent gram positive, gram negative and anaerobic coverage, according to an official release. It belongs to the new class of anti-bacterials - the carbapanems. Cilanem will compete in the high-end injectible antibiotic segment. Currently, molecules like pipericilin, tazobactem besides third and fourth generation premium cephalosporin injectibles are being used in such indications.
