No move to sell river water, says Kerala Minister

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram , Sept. 10

THERE is no proposal to sell Kerala's water resources, says an official press release from the State Minister for Water Resources, Mr T.M. Jacob. Hence, recent reports that river water in the State would be bottled and sold by companies in the private sector is baseless, the release adds.

Similarly, the Government does not propose to privatise the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), says the release. In fact the KWA is working on several projects intended to improve the supply of drinking water in the State, it quotes the Minister as saying.

The KWA will complete 47 major water supply projects over the course of this year. Besides, it will also partially complete eight water supply projects in the same period.

As a result of these measures piped water will be available to another 16.59 lakh people in the State, the release states.
