AP power utilities adopt TIMS

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The failure rate of distribution transformers (DTRs) in Andhra Pradesh has declined drastically following the adoption of Transformer Information Management System (TIMS) by the State power utilities, according to Ms Rachel Chatterjee, Chairperson and Managing Director of the Transmission Corporation of AP (APTransco).

In a press release here on Wednesday, Ms Chatterjee stated that DTR failure rate, which stood at 28 per cent in 2001-02, had declined 18.7 per cent in 2002-03. Similarly, the interruptions in 11 kV lines had gone down by 17 per cent.

Stating that TIMS had been adopted to reduce DTR failures and improve the reliability of power supply, she pointed out that basing on the reports generated by the system, the employees of the power utilities have been able to pinpoint the cause of the breakdown and take immediate action.

The APTransco chief said that TIMS would also be helpful in identifying manufacturers whose transformers were failing frequently and warned that such manufacturers would be blacklisted. Similarly, action would be taken against the utilities staff if it were found that DTR failures were due to their negligence.
