`Deliver as promised for credibility'

Our Bureau

Chennai , Sept. 10

IN a globalised economy, the ability to deliver against promises is important as the impression about India is quite negative, according to Mr V.K. Raman, CEO (India), Global Realty Outsourcing India Pvt Ltd.

The spoken word is still held high outside India, he added.

The electronic media, both Indian and foreign, often paint a negative picture of the country which does not augur well for business, he said during the 20th convocation of the post-graduate business management programme of the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR).

If one does not deliver as promised, credibility would be lost. Mr Raman spoke of the changes that have taken place in the workplace and in the global marketplace in recent times. According to him, a major change has been the phasing out of designations.

"Cluster groups are formed where skills are valued. These groups band and disband at all the time."

Another new trend is the pay for performance. Ever since the Company's Act was amended, salaries have gone up in India.
