SCI board mulls interim dividend?

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Sept. 10

IS the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) about to issue a bumper interim dividend to enable the Government to draw a part of its reserves ahead of its disinvestment?

There is much speculation on this after the company announced the record date as October 10, for an interim dividend, even before the announcement of its half yearly results.

The Government holds about 80 per cent of the company's shares.

A company source said the SCI board is expected to meet by the first week of October to consider an interim dividend. The company on Wednesday informed the stock exchanges that it has fixed October 10 as the record date for the proposed dividend.

The company's shares have been rising rather dramatically on the exchanges in the recent past. SCI shares are ruling at over Rs 100 on BSE.
