Breweries Corporate - People Kiran, Komal join the board of SWC, SABMiller joint venture Boby Kurian
Bangalore , Sept. 17 THE Jumbo Group has booked a seat for the two daughters of the late Manu Chhabria on the board of Shaw Wallace's joint venture with SABMiller. Ms Kiran Chhabria, the youngest among the three daughters of the Chhabria estate, who has had no prior exposure to Jumbo's businesses in the country, and Ms Komal Chhabria Wazir, an executive director of Shaw Wallace & Co, are among the nominees to the board. The 50:50 joint venture between Shaw Wallace Breweries and Mysore Breweries, the Indian subsidiary of SABMiller, under the latter's management control has finalised a 10-member board, equally split between two partners. The board headed by the Jumbo Group chairperson, Ms Vidya Manohar Chhabria, also has Mr Niranjan Thakur and Mr Prakash Nene as Jumbo representatives. SABMiller nominees on the board of the re-structured Shaw Wallace Breweries include Mr Richard Rushton, who will head operations as Managing Director, Mr Andre Parker, Mr Pete Lloyd, Mr Jonathan Kirby and Mr K.P. Balasubramaniam. Business Line had earlier indicated that Ms Kiran Chhabria might take a seat on the board of the joint venture. The board's strength was initially put at eight with four directors from each side. The setting up of the 10-member board paves way for both the Chhabria daughters. It must be mentioned that the Manu Chhabria family has recently seen a sibling rivalry with the eldest daughter, Ms Kanchan Chhabria (Bhavika Godhwani), moving court seeking a split in the family assets. The industry watchers would closely follow Ms Kiran Chhabria's formal introduction to Jumbo's Indian businesses. Ms Komal Chhabria has been closely associated with the running of most Jumbo Group companies in India, including Dunlop, Mather & Platt and Falcon Tyres. In May this year, the Dubai-based Jumbo Group, founded by the late Manu Chhabria, hived off its brewing business to form a joint venture with SABMiller, the world's second largest brewer. The transnational coughed up nearly $133 million for 50 per cent stake and management control in Shaw Wallace Breweries and is currently engaged in aligning the operations of Shaw Wallace and Mysore Breweries into one organisation.
