Helping the aged

This has reference to the article "Help for senior citizens" (Business Line, September 12). The author has neatly summarised the many travails of senior citizens. Here are some suggestions:

  • Apartment and colony welfare associations can have small volunteer groups to help senior citizens pay bills, and so on.

  • The practice of keeping a register to be signed once a year in lieu of the life certificate can be introduced in all banks.

One bank even sends the register to the residences of senior citizens who are too old or sick to go to the bank.
