Price collapse

This is with reference to the editorial "Prevent farm price collapse" (Business Line, September 17).

The good monsoon has produced bumper crops. It is possible that this may lead to a price fall and farmers will be put through hardships again.

So, the various governmental organisations engaged in procurement have to be alert to face the eventualities. The announcement of the MSPs for the rabi crops will help the farmers.

If the activities under fine cereals continue, there is every likelihood of further drop in prices as they are in abundant supply. So the Centre should play its cards carefully to avert any huge price falls.
