HPCL, BPCL sell-off

This is with reference to "SC puts the brakes on HPCL, BPCL sell-off" (Business Line, September 17). The ruling of the Supreme Court was as expected.

It is easy to understand that the two public sector oil companies cannot be privatised through an executive order, overriding a Parliamentary legislation creating the two companies in 1974.

The Centre, however, ignored all these facts and proceeded with the privatisation of the two major profit-earning oil companies.
