Chennai , Sept. 18

THE oft cited reason for a small scale unit's failure is marketing related, and the Small Industries Service Institute plans to do its bit to address this problem through a mega buyer-seller meet, according to the institute's Director, Mr V.S. Karunakaran.

At press conference here on Thursday, he said that the institute hopes to bring together SSI entrepreneurs and large-scale industries at `Outsourcing 2003' to be held on October 10 and 11 at the Chennai Trade Centre. Small and tiny scale entrepreneurs in agro products, auto components, electrical and electronic items, engineering, information technology, leather, plastics and rubber, and self-help groups will showcase their products and services, he said.

The event has attracted major industrial houses, which have agreed to participate and highlight their requirements to the SSIs. Major enterprises such as the Integral Coach Factory, Southern Railway, Heavy Vehicles Factory and Chennai Port Trust will also be showcasing their requirements. Simultaneously, a seminar will also be held on the procurement policy, quality standards, logistics and payment details, he said.

The event is being organised by the Small Industries Service Institute in collaboration with Directorate of Industries and Commerce, and other State industrial promotion and funding agencies.
